For those looking to upgrade their Moodle 1.9 customisations and plugins to Moodle 2, there has been some very easy to read and follow blog posts by Mike Churchward on the topic.
Mike as many of you may know is the Chief Information Officer and President of Remote-Learner Moodle Partner, and co-authored Moodle 1.9 Extension Development from Packt Publishing with Jonathan Moore.
The six part series called “Converting Moodle 1.9 Plug-ins to Moodle 2” took a Moodle 1.9 block which hadn’t yet been updated and went through the development process of updating the block to not just work in Moodle 2 but to follow the Moodle development approach.
The six posts covered the whole process:
1 – Know the 1.9 Code
2 – See What Happens
3 – Porting Code
4 – Fixing Old Code
5 – Cleaning Up
6 – Global Config
7 – More cleaning up
Even if you do not do the Moodle development yourself, this is a good set of blog posts to understand the scope of porting even a small relatively simple block.
He will be tackling an activity plugin in the next few posts, so be sure to Subscribe or follow his blog!
